Honoring Peg Johntson

Key Founder & Former Board Chair of Abortion Conversation Projects

2023 marked the loss of one of our leaders

Peg was a life-long resident of Binghamton, NY. She was active in her community through many projects that included the Cooperative Gallery 213 founded in 2000 and more recently the Department of Public Art Project that has contributed many murals to the Triple Cities.  Peg was an abortion- rights and anti-violence activist. She was the Executive Director of the Southern Tier Women's Services in Vestal New York, former President of the Abortion Conversation Projects; founder and past president of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers. Johnston was also one of the founders of the Abortion Care Network and Board President from 2008-10. She was the creator of the Pregnancy Options Workbooks and was the primary author of several handouts developed by the Abortion Conversation Project and the Abortion Care Network as an abortion provider since 1981.  Her reach was far with colleagues and with women seeking support as they consider their reproductive choices. Peg enjoyed talking to women — and men — about their abortion experiences and challenging the stigma around abortion. Peg was the recipient of the 2011 David Gunn Lifetime Achievement Award.

Contributions in Peg’s memory can be made to the Abortion Conversation Projects or PO Box 76056, St, Petersburg, FL 33734
